Beloved Bob Books Get Interactive

Bob Books #1 Reading Magic is a fabulous compliment to the Bob Books series of beginning readers, published by Scholastic, Inc.  For kids with special needs, this means interactive illustrations and attention-grabbing audio.  In this first edition, early reading skills addressed include matching letters, learning right-to-left order, spelling without visual hints, and spelling by choosing the correct letters from a group of six letters.

Bob Books: Awards and Recognition for Excellence

Like the book series, which has been praised for its repetitive format, the app reinforces these four early-reading skills using the same twelve pictures and accompanying basic sentences.

Is this one of the best apps for books?  You bet!  According to Bob Books:

In January 2012, Bob Books Reading Magic 1 received a commendation from the Children’s Technology Review. According to the CTR, their Editor’s Choice Awards are given to only the highest quality children’s products in the interactive media category. These are “no fail” products, worthy of their cost, and able to keep children engaged for days at a time.

If your kids have read the Bob Books previously, they will enjoy the familiarity of the visuals and the predictable format.  All children will be attracted to the colorful, fun illustrations and the friendly audio.

Bob Books Reading Magic: 4 Levels To Choose From

Parents and teachers will appreciate the ability to set the audio to include or exclude sounds effects, background music, and hints as a way to make the app match the needs of his or her child.  Also beneficial is the way the audio isolates the sound of each letter before blending the sounds together to form the word.

Drag and Drop Is Fun

The drag and drop feature keeps children engaged in a fun, active way.  Kids will learn to sound out simple words, discover the connection between a letter and the sound it makes, and then learn how to spell the words that they are working with.

As an early reading app, this one is tops.  You can visit the Bob Books website for information on how to purchase the book series and other related materials and apps for beginning readers.  You can also visit Learning Touch for more apps by this designer.
