Just in time for the 4th of July, Visuals Work has created a fun and entertaining story app that young learners will absolutely love — and API is giving away 10 FREE copies!

Lorrie Ann Harrington, who also has a child on the spectrum, designed this app to accommodate the special needs of beginning readers.

Story App Teaches Early Literacy Skills

In this story app, children help Lucy find her ladybug friends so they can attend the 4th of July party together.  When kids go along with Lucy on the search, she and her friends capture your child’s attention.  Lucy then teaches important concepts such as positions, sight words, counting, and number recognition.

Lucy and Her Friends Use Festive Illustrations

This story app is replete with directional terms such as “next to, above, and behind.”  These terms are complemented by pictures with movable ladybugs and balloons.

The story also uses repetitive language which helps with word prediction and memorization.  Children can learn and practice reading common sight words like “her” and “friend,” which are used frequently throughout the story.

Additionally, this eBook teaches and reinforces ordinal counting and number recognition through festive objects such as flags, stars, and rockets.

Story App Features

As language and vocabulary building tools, eBooks are an excellent way to integrate reading with technology.  The “Read it to Me” functionality gives children the opportunity to listen to the story over and over again through audio recorded narration. This function gives them a sense of independence as they are grasping new reading concepts.

Personalize Lucy’s Story App

The book app can also be personalized by adding a favorite photo of the child within the story.  The photo can be taken from within the app or it can be collected from the iPad’s photo gallery.  Kids will be delighted to see themselves in story!

Fun Game Included

Another awesome feature of this story app is that it includes a balloon popping game.  This captivating game will keep the child occupied for hours on end.

This neat book both educates and entertains with dynamic and engaging content.  With Independence Day around the corner, Ladybug Lucy and Her Friends are sure to liven up the holiday festivities.
