Color Fun

Learning about colors is an exciting time in a little person’s life. They get that the sky is blue, grass green, and the sun, yellow. Autistic learners are visual and colors help them in many ways, like associating items, actions (stop or go), or answers (yes or no) with a color.

Curious Hat’s Color Vacuum is an interactive educational app that takes kids on a journey while learning colors. They can search for colors in their own environment and experiment with different color palettes. The antique dial design is quite unique and will keep curious kids busy!

Note that younger kids will probably need some adult assistance to read the instructions and navigate this app effectively.

Before you start, tap the question mark to read the professor’s helpful tips on using the app.

Collect Colors

Kids can use the collect mode to find colors around them. To begin, they can use the iPad’s camera to capture colors which are then stored in the app. This activity helps kids associate items with colors, like, apples are red or green, bananas are yellow, and carrots are orange.

Change App Modes

To change modes, tap the dial and select a mode, then tap On. In search mode, kids are given a color example and use the iPad camera to find the color.

In vacuum mode, kids increase or decrease colors to make the final color.

They can also learn the Additive Color System, where colors are created by adding different combinations of red, green, and blue light, displayed in the vials at the bottom of the screen.

Remember, if you need help, tap the question mark and helpful instructions display in the middle of the dial.

Learning About Colors is Fun!

Color Vacuum is certain to keep kids busy finding colors and learning how to make them. They’ll have so much fun learning about the colorful world around them!
